Welcome to Bee Hollar Farm And Vineyard
A Day at the Farm
Hello, we’re Brad and Lisa Rowand owners of Bee Hollar Farm and Vineyard. We started out as a little hobby farm in 2016 after we moved to Florahome, Florida. Our kids, grandkids, and even our niece helps out on the farm. We have a garden to maintain as well as horses, cows, donkeys, chickens, our beloved pig, and our specialty - Bees. We’ve had bees off and on for over a decade. But back in 2019 when we started to get back involved with it we started with only two hives, since then we have caught or rescued several more. In Spring/Summer of 2021 we rehomed over 18 hives! That put us to 20 working hives, the most we’ve ever had! The goal is to keep going up, to keep saving the bees, the world needs them! Fast forward to 2022 and we are already over 30 hives so far and extracting lots of yummy honey. And what better way to do that than to start your own Vineyard? Well, in fall of 2021 that’s what we decided to do! Who would’ve thought that just a couple of vines bought at a plant sale would start a whole new dream for us!Follow us on this crazy adventure! This life of beekeeping and farming definitely isn’t for the weak. There’s always work to be done and there’s always something new to learn but we wouldn’t change it for a thing! We love to educate, so don’t be afraid to ask us questions! Even if we don’t already know the answer, we love learning something new everyday!
We’re selling honey!
Throughout the month of May we’ve been at our local sunflower u-pick even called Farm Dayz, this is our first time actually selling honey and so far has been a huge hit! If you’re interested, get in contact with us to see what we currently have in stock! Bees only have two true honey flows a year - spring and fall - each flow can last different lengths depending on what’s blooming! As anything truly from nature, we can’t always guarantee what will be available or not!
We Rescue Bees!
Just from our most recent bee rescue. We’ve done at least three this year alone! This one is our first trap out - where you block the exits other than the one you created. Then place a hive outside the box with some brood (Unhatched bees) which will eventually draw out the other bees and eventually the queen! We’ve also done cut outs -where you have to cut into the bees hiding spot to access them and cut out the hive! Have a bee problem? Contact us!
Did someone say Vineyard?
The secrets in the soil! Years ago we acquired some grape vines from the University of Florida. They absolutely flourished these past two years, so much so that we’ve expanded to Bee Hollar Farm AND VINEYARD! This is our new work in progress, but we’re so eager to see where it goes!!
Preparing for 2022
When the tractor is down but we need to start prepping the field to plant this year, our son decided to hook the discs up to the four wheeler and got it done! Stay tuned to see what we have in store this year. We’re so excited!!
Upcoming Events to find us!
This year you can find Bee Hollar Farm with our 2022 honey at The Blue Crab Festival in Palatka, FL!! This will be one of the biggest events we have ever sold at! We’re so excited and can’t wait to see you there! Memorial Day weekend - Friday, Saturday, Sunday as long as we still have honey!! Check out our Facebook page @Bee Hollar Farm for any other events you may be able to find us at between then!!
Why Raw unfiltered, honey?
The coolest thing about honey is that everytime you harvest it you get a slightly different flavor. This is based on what kind of nectar and pollen the plants provide for the bees to grow their hive. The honey we harvest is excess honey and we use honey in everything on the farm. We use it to sweeten our coffee and herbal teas, as a typing for ice cream, a marinade for meats, as a quick snack with peanut butter, in baking and as an allergy preventative. Honey has amazing properties and can last forever. If it is pure honey eventually it will crystallize and we just lightly warm it up and it liquefies again. What do you use your honey for????
